Crown Castings is an Australian owned business, established and operated by Diane and Russell Hewitt since 1990, and is based in the Hinterland of the Sunshine Coast at Yandina.

Crown Castings has a reputation for making the difficult, simple; the tedious functional; and the impossible attainable; creating a dynamic connection between technology and tradition.

The foundry men’s role is one of the very earliest professions, and both Russell and Diane take their business very seriously. Russell, has worked in and managed foundries around the world in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and Canada. He also contributes to the workforce by teaching these foundry man skills at TAFE. He is keen to ensure that these skills aren’t lost in the race for obsolescence.

When they established the first Non-Ferrous Foundry on the Sunshine Coast, Diane was more involved with the administrative management of the business, but today she is also trade qualified. She says, “I really wanted to understand how I could help people who came to us with their challenges, and I didn’t want to interrupt Russell, every time the phone rang; otherwise we would never get anything finished, just kidding!”

The Hewitts are passionate about their profession and their capacity to do tasks well, tasks that appear to be outside of the range of the automation structure. One can’t help but get excited as they describe, how they have developed a part for fire-fighting vehicles, and an arm for a machine used in Laser Surgery.

The one obvious thing is that their market is one of the most diverse in existence. Crown Castings provides casting for medical, marine, automotive, glass-blowing, fibreglass, and the list goes on.
